(non) animal crackers

most people like the nostalgic frosted animal crackers, that you would get as a kid (but still buy as an adult). i wanted to try to remake these delicious cookies.... really hard to do... you can't get the exact taste of the cookie, but you can still get a good tasty one that is like it!!

makes about 160 small baby cookies (not really that much since small)

1 1/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp salt

2 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter

glaze

2 cups powdered sugar

3 tbls milk

pink food dye

1. In a standup mixer with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar together for about 3 minutes. (until very creamy)

2. add in 2 eggs and mix until combined

3. In a separate bowl combine flour and salt. whisk just slightly together

4. add flour to the butter/sugar mix. combine together to create a dough

5. form into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. freeze for 30 minutes.

6. to make the glaze combine powdered sugar and milk. whisk until no clumps!

7. put into 2 separate bowls

8. leave one bowl white, but then add 1 drop of pink food dye to the other to get that nostalgic pink!! (add more or less if needed)

9. take dough out of freezer and preheat oven to 375oF

10. roll out dough and use flower and heart cookie cutters about 1cm in size (but use whatever your feel like!!)

11. place on a pan and bake for 7-8 minutes or until a slight brown on edges

12. when they cool dip in frosting (half batch in pink, half in white) also they should be a little bit messy, cause nothin' is perfect!! :)

13. sprinkle some sprinkles on top.... if you like, but i LOVE sprinkles so i put maybe a bit too much on!!

yum yum yum..... now go and eat those crackers
